Hailing from London, United Kingdom, Boatman is considered a legend of the game. With over $5.4 million in live poker tournament earnings, and was one of the founding members of The Hendon Mob, alongside brother Ross Boatman, Ram Vaswani, and Joe Beevers. The Global Poker Index acquired The Hendon Mob database in July 2013. Boatman has two World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelets and a European Poker Tour (EPT) Main Event title to his name.

Boatman has live tournament cashes dating back to 1998, although he has played professionally longer than than that. Now in his late 60s, Boatman has seen it all in the live poker arena and draws upon his wealth of experience to make incredible reads based on intuition and live reads.

His first live recorded cash was a victory in a Seven-Card Stud event in Slovenia in April 1998. Amazingly, it wasn't until August 2000 that Boatman cashed in an event in his native UK, finishing seventh in a Seven-Card Stud tournament. Earlier that year, Boatman finished 16th in the 2000 WSOP Main Event.
Fast forward to October 2011, and Boatman finished fourth in the EPT San Remo Main Event for €225,000, the first six-figure payout of his live tournament career; it would not be his last.
In June 2013, Boatman won the $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em event at the WSOP, clinching his first gold bracelet and a career-best $546,080 in prize money. Boatman added a second bracelet to his wrist in 2015, taking down the €550 Pot Limit Omaha event at the WSOP Europe in Berlin. He came close to a third bracelet in 2022, finishing third in the $1,500 Mixed Pot-Limit Omaha event in Las Vegas, then seventh in the €10,350 WSOP Europe Main Event later in the year.
Boatman became an EPT champion in February 2024 after outlasting 1,746 opponents in the €5,300 EPT Paris Main Event. Boatman walked away with €1,287,800, his first seven-figure haul, and an EPT title.
