The 2024 PokerStars WCOOP is up and running, and Team Akkari has wasted no time in accumulating points for the hotly-contested WCOOP League. Team Akkari amassed 85 points on the opening day of the series, thanks to Laurie "LaliTournier" Tournier finishing eighth in the $530 NLH Progressive Knockout event.
Team Tonkaaaa finds itself only 10 points behind the leaders after Niklas "Lena900" Astedt finished seventh in the $109 NLHE Turbo Progressive Knockout.
As you can see, it has not been the best of starts for Team Spraggy, captained by the ever-popular Benjamin Spragg. Despite being able to call upon the likes of Kelvin "kelvin_fp:ar" Kerber, Simon "C. Darwin2" Mattsson, Daniel "SmilleThHero" Smiljkovic, and "Revenge4Dodo," Team Spraggy drew a blank on Day 1 and are the only WCOOP League team without a point to show for their efforts.
Everyone who bought into a PokerStars WCOOP event on the opening day had everything crossed so they'd come out with a victory. Poland-based star "Tr!pleeeee" did exactly that, triumphing in the WCOOP 07-H: $530 NLHE Turbo PKO event for a combined prize worth $28,406.
Some 338 players bought in, and "Tr!pleeeee" outlasted them all. They not only padded their poker bankroll with $28,406, but they collected 115 WCOOP Leaderboard points, putting them in pole position even if the 2024 WCOOP is still in its infancy.

Aside from "Tr!pleeeee," five other PokerStars players reeled in at least 100 points on the opening day's action. "rafarecife96" helped themselves to 110 points, while "Azkabanter," "CPUrul0r," "Sintoras," and "thimbex" were each awarded 100 leaderboard points.
Only five events concluded on Day 1 of the 2024 PokerStars WCOOP, with 13 others progressing to their respective Day 2s. One of the completed events, WCOOP 02-M: $55 NLHE WCOOP Kickoff, awarded the largest prize of the opening day.
A bumper crowd of 4,256 players created a $226,300 prize pool, and "Sintoras" helped themselves to the lion's share of that pot. Their latest in a long line of victories came with a $32,247 payout, gifting "Sintoras" plenty of ammunition for the upcoming WCOOP events.

Of the in-play events that finish on September 9, at least two could have a significant impact on the WCOOP League. Niklas "Lena900" Astedt (Team Tonkaaaa) is the chip leader with only 29 remaining in WCOOP 06-H: $1,050 NLHE 6-Max while Patrick "pads1161" Leonard finds himself in the top 15 of WCOOP 04-H: $1,050 NLHE Progressive KO Sunday High Roller with 49 players remaining.
The 2024 PokerStars WCOOP may have only shuffled up and dealt one day ago, but the action is already ramping up. On September 9, 13 in-play events crown their worthy champions, while another 24 new events enter the fray.
All eyes will likely be on WCOOP 09-H: $5,00 NLHE Bounty Builder Super High Roller at 5:30 p.m. BST. This $350,000 guaranteed high-stakes event will draw in some of the best online poker players on the planet, many of whom are competing in the WCOOP League. The 2024 WCOOP is less than 48 hours old, but it is already making a big stir in the poker community.
Team Aakkari still sits atop the pile after Day 2 in the WCOOP League, and he will look to add more points tonight with Yuri "theNERDguy" Dzivielevski (pictured) resuming Event #10-M: $215 HORSE second in chips. Just 18 players remain from the starting field of 215 but there's also other WCOOP League interest, with Renan "Internett93o" Bruschi from Team Easywithaces also advancing.
